Clean Ocean Action

KNOCK KNOCK…

who’s there?

Not Clean Ocean Action! (COA)
COA does not go door-to-door. We do not solicit funds or signatures, or distribute information through canvassing. If you have questions or concerns, COA suggests contacting your town administrator. Please further note that Clean Ocean Action has no financial affiliation with the organization called Clean Water Action (formerly known as NJ Environmental Federation) or any other canvassing organization.

Join COA's Executive Director, Cindy Zipf, and South Jersey Coordinator, Toni Groet, for an informative presentation about offshore wind, impacts on marine life, and for more about COA's position and platform on the topic. The event is happening tonight, 6pm, at 355 Court House South Dennis Rd., Cape May Court House, NJ, 08210 in the Rutgers Co-Op Building.

Earth Day 2024 Press Conference on Plastic Pollution

Clean Ocean Action participated in an Earth Day press conference at the State House in Trenton, NJ. The press conference, held with other environmental groups, followed a special Joint NJ Senate and Assembly Committee hearing focused on the effects of plastics on human health. A screening of the documentary, “We’re All Plastic People Now,” followed.

COA spoke about the success of NJ’s Get Past Plastic Law in reducing plastic waste. COA used data and debris collected at our Beach Sweeps litter cleanups to illustrate that plastic bag and foam plastic food service litter has decreased, but plastic pollution remains a serious problem. Plastic is man-made from fossil fuels, never fully degrades, and has a toxic life cycle which threatens public health and the environment. Plastic waste in the ocean also maims, harms or kills marine life through ingestion and/or entanglement.

Since 1984, COA has worked to implement the most effective policies to reduce and eliminate plastics, especially single-use plastics. The work continues and the Beach Sweeps program provides evidence of the persistent plastic pollution problems that still must be addressed.

Waves of thanks for joining us on Earth Day for the community scientist training!

Thank you to the volunteers who joined us at the Clean Ocean Action office to become trained community scientists for the Rally for the Two Rivers! Volunteers help COA's water quality teams monitor water quality and track down pathogen pollution sources throughout the Navesink and Shrewsbury River watersheds. Soon, the newly trained volunteers will be able to collect water samples. Stay tuned for future trainings and public meetings!
