2015 Annual Beach Sweeps Report
Celebrating the 30th Annual Beach Sweeps
Across New Jersey, over 6,375 volunteers participated in the 2015 semi-annual Beach Sweeps. The small and the tall helped to remove and record over 332,000 pieces of debris at 70 cleanup locations.
The 2015 Annual Report highlights the amount of debris collected, the "Dirty Dozen", and the "Roster of the Ridiculous" of uncommon things found on the beaches.
The #1 type of debris continued to be plastics making up over 70% of the total debris. Of that, nearly 70% of the plastics were single-use plastics such as plastic water bottles, plastic cutlery, and straws.
