GOLFERS PLAY "FORE" THE OCEAN
COA and Event Sponsor, The New York Mercantile Exchange Charitable Foundation, hosted the Fourth Annual Ocean Golf Classic on September 29th at the Navesink Country Club in Middletown. Thanks to the amazing efforts of all who participated, COA raised $70,000 in net proceeds to support our seaworthy programs and advocacy work.
“This is our 4th year as Event Chairs, and at the end of the day’s activities, it is a great feeling to know the tournament supports Clean Ocean Action’s constant efforts to protect our precious waters and coastal environment,” said Jeannette and Tom Yorke of Rumson.
What a turn of events! The day began with torrential rain and ended with sunny skies and smiles. A highlight of the day was the Beach Club Challenge, a tournament within the tournament in which teams from local beach clubs competed for the coveted tournament flag and commemorative trophy made from 99.9% Jersey driftwood. The reigning champions, Chapel Beach Club in Sea Bright, fiercely defended their three-year title for a fourth win. Participating clubs included Driftwood, Monmouth Beach Bath & Tennis, Monmouth Beach Bathing Pavilion, Promenade, Sands, Sea Bright, Ship Ahoy, Surfrider, and Waters Edge.
TOURNAMENT "FISH-TIVITIES"
Over 100 guests, including players and their families and friends, attended the Tournament’s program, including a luncheon sponsored by Chapel Beach Club, the Awards and Prizes Presentation sponsored by K. Hovnanian Companies, and a cocktail/dinner reception sponsored by Nomura Credit and Capital.
