June’s creature was the Thresher shark (Alopias vulpinus). This typically harmless, open-ocean shark can reach up to almost 25 feet in length including its tail. When it is born, the shark is 4-5 feet long and weighs about 12 pounds. In the eastern North Atlantic, the shark lives from Newfoundland to the Caribbean Sea and is highly migratory. August’s creature feature is a bird that is known for diving feet first to catch fish – which makes up 99% of its diet. In addition to trees, this bird may build nests on telephone poles, street lights, and constructed platforms. The wingspan ranges from 5 to almost 6 feet.
