Clean Ocean Advocate, October 2005
ANOTHER "SUNSATIONAL" EVENT!
Sunset at Sandy Hook 2005
On behalf of Clean Ocean Action, special thanks to our dear friends, Ed Segall and the staff of The Sea Gulls’ Nest, for hosting a “sunsational” seaside affair on beautiful Sandy Hook on September 16th. What an evening! Ed, ocean advocate extraordinaire, is already busy planning for next year’s festivities!
Thanks to the combined efforts of all who participated and contributed, the event raised over $45,000 to support COA’s education programs and advocacy work. Over 350 guests feasted on tasty dishes and desserts, donated by over 25 restaurants and caterers, enjoyed the shanty tunes of guitarist Michael Gilhool, danced to the live jams of band Line Drive, and won fabulous gifts from the silent auction and “new” boardwalk-style wheel auction. Sea Turtle guests also received baskets of donated goodies prepared by The Well Bred Basket in Red Bank.
Event sponsors Shore Point Distributors, High Point Auto Insurance, Meridian Health, and Tapestry International were all in attendance, leading guests in a celebration of the sea and making the connection between a healthy ocean and a healthy economy. A full list of Sunset supporters is posted on COA’s website. Waves of thanks to the Sunset Committee Members: Janine Karoly, Chair; Joanne DeCuollo; Susan Drastal; Patty Gordinier; Marion Hodge; Debbie Schluter; Gayle Stamer; Stevie Thompson; Mimi Wise; and Suzanne Bajew Wolf. Special thanks to the volunteers: Liz Lehman and students from the Culinary Education Center of Brookdale Community College and Monmouth County Vocational School, and Rumson-Fair Haven High School Environmental Club.
COA also thanks photographer Pat McCarthy of Jersey Shorescapes for donating the beautiful 2005 Sunset at Sandy Hook invitation cover image.
